Looking for a really easy way to do keyword research for your site and blog posts? I got a couple of ways where I can show you how to find keywords for your website. With the right keywords, you can boost your traffic and site revenue significantly.

In this article, I’ll discuss a couple of ways you can find the keywords you need to rank in Google easily. Because keywords play a large part in why websites are not getting traffic with SEO. And finding the right keywords can save you time and make you money if you know what to do.

I’ll talk about a little-known technique called Alphabet Soup to help you find niches and long-tail keywords. And lastly, we’ll introduce you to one of the best free keyword research tools to make using the Alphabet Soup method a lot easier.

Whether you’re looking for some little-known WordPress tips or need some blogging advice, this article is designed to help you gain traffic the right way.

How to Find The Best Keywords for Your Website?

There is a huge difference between finding keywords for your site and finding the right keywords for your website.

Do you know what the difference is? It’s the keywords you target that make all the difference between you succeeding and failing.

In this important section, I’ll discuss how to find keywords for your blog or website the right way. Trust me, if you learn how to do it now you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches in the future.

To give you a few examples let’s discuss how people who are new to keyword research usually approach it.

First, they may type some queries in Google or some keyword research tool to get an idea of what to write. They usually gather highly competitive keywords, stuff them in an article and write some kind of thin content expecting it to rank.

Another scenario could be that a person just gets an idea for an article to write.

Just any idea out of the blue.

They write the article with no real direction, publish it and expect it to get tons of traffic somehow.

Obviously, both scenarios and many like them are the wrong way to find keywords for a website. It’s a lazy, unrefined approach that many, including me when I first started, are guilty of.

Targeting competitive keywords when you have a brand new website is the absolute wrong way to go. And, writing articles off the top of your head with keywords and topics no one is searching for will get you little to no traffic as well.

What you need to do is spend a day or two doing proper keyword research the right way. And the proper way to go about it is to find the right keywords that will bring you the traffic you want.

For instance, let’s say you are in the Pet niche and you write about dogs. You have a brand new website and you want to rank for the keyword “Dogs”.

The keyword “Dogs” has millions of search results.

Well, if you just wrote up an article targeting the keyword “Dogs”, you’ll never rank.


Well, you’ll be competing with millions of other results with the keyword “Dogs” in it.

Not to mention you’ll be competing with sites like Wikipedia, The Humane Society, and National Geographic.

Do you think your new dog site will outrank them for the term “Dogs”?

Nope, not a chance!

And believe it or not, this is the strategy a lot of people take when they start building a new website. It’s a losing strategy that many of us who’ve been in SEO for a long time has seen over and over again.

So what is the right way to find keywords for a website?

  • Target response keywords
  • Target buyer keywords

You don’t just want to target any old keyword, you’ll want to target the right keyword. So let’s dive deeper into this in the next section.

Why Do You Need to Target Response Keywords?

One of the easiest ways to go about finding the right keywords is to target a response keyword. These are the type of keywords you want to go after when you have a brand new website and want organic traffic fast.

Response keywords are simply keywords or phrases asking a question and needing an answer. It’s that simple. You can easily see how this works by going to and looking through the questions and answers.

Let’s use the dog website as an example again. In this example, we used the phrase “How to stop dogs from barking” and found this question in Quora.

As you can see, this is a topic a lot of people want answers to.

And, in the Related Questions section to the right, you can find similar questions from other people looking for answers.

You can go to Quora right now and find countless questions regarding dogs. This is how you can start to gather keyword and topic ideas to write about. But you don’t just want to answer questions that sites in Google have already answered a thousand times.

You want to go one step further.

Again, you can use Quora to get an idea of what questions people are asking about dogs. Then take the questions and paste them into Google Search.

So for example, taking our phrase “How to stop a dog from barking” and pasting it in Google gives us the following:

Notice in the above screenshot that Google gives us suggestions related to our query? This is because other people have searched for the same phrase but with additional keywords added.

So why is this important?

Well, if you were to search for “How to stop a dog from barking” in Google you’ll notice it has about 9,38,00,000 results. But if you add quotation marks around the term, Google provides an Exact Match which returns 3,35,000 results.

Quick note: The number of search results may change later. It’s always changing.

When you do your keyword research, you don’t want to just look at the regular results Google shows you. It’ll only show results with pages that may have the phrase somewhere on a site’s page. That’s why the result numbers are so high.

But with Exact Match, usually shows results with pages strictly focused on the topic. And this is why the result numbers are much lower.

And you never want to target a keyword with too many results until your site has enough authority to do so.

So again, referring back to the previous screenshot showing Google Suggestions it’s best we use a less competitive keyword.

So instead of “How to stop a dog from barking” which is too competitive, you should research “How to stop a dog from barking at strangers” in Exact Match.

You’ll notice in the screenshot that the phrase in Exact Match has about 3310 results. You can easily rank for this long-tail keyword as there is little competition.

This is a great response keyword to target because:

  • The competition is almost nonexistent.
  • You already know people are searching for it, thanks to Google Suggestions.
  • It’s a topic that requires a response.

All you need to do is to be sure to make an article or resource better than the sites already ranking on the first page. Answer the question thoroughly, and if possible, find a product you can refer visitors to in order to make money.

The great thing about low competition response keywords is you can rank quickly for them. And Google loves it when sites can give a quality answer to these queries.

Why You Need to Target Buyer Keywords?

Now that I talked about Response keywords we can move on to Buyer keywords. If you read the previous section on Response keywords it’ll help you with this section.

Buyer keywords are keywords or phrases users put into a search engine with the intent to buy something. These are the most lucrative of keywords to go after so that means the competition for them is fierce.

Using the dog website again, I’ll use a Buyer keyword example like “Best dog food”.

This is a highly competitive keyword with over 2 billion results.

You absolutely wouldn’t want to target something like this.

You just wouldn’t rank anywhere near the first page for it.

So what you want to do is use what I call The Back Door Method for Keywords. It’s a simple enough technique to understand but sometimes hard to implement.

So let’s explain real quick how this works.

What you want to do is find competitive Buyer keywords but approach them from a different angle. It’s like having a friend who works at a club. Instead of using the front entrance, they let you in through the back door.

So for example, with the keyword “Best dog food” you wouldn’t target it directly. So instead you would want to use a combination of a Response keyword with a Buyer keyword.

So say you want to refer visitors to a dog food product. What you can do is to find a problem or issue people have in general with dog food. You can go to and see what questions and issues people are having with dog food.

When we looked we immediately found that someone was asking about dog food for picky dogs. So all we had to do is go to Google we found this low competition keyword in Exact Match.

Now, here is how to use this to your advantage.

  • Use the Response keyword to write an article
  • Write another article for a keyword related to your Response keyword
  • Refer visitors to your Buyer keyword article from your Response keyword article

So for example.

The Response keyword phrase “Picky dog won’t eat dry food” can be turned into an article called Why Your Picky Dog won’t Eat Dry Food. You’re also going to want to create a post called Best Dry Food for Picky Dogs.

Use this response post to fully answer their questions. And within the same post, offer them a product in a section called “Best dry food for your picky dog”. Also, within the post, link to your article for Best Dry Food for Picky Dogs.

What you’re basically doing is grabbing low competition traffic from Google and funneling it to your Buyer keywords.

If you fully answer the visitor’s questions, they’ll be very happy and grateful.

And then if you offer them a product which is related to a solution within the same article, they may buy it.

Now, if they don’t buy the one product within that post, there is a high chance they’ll click the link to your Buyer keyword article Best Dry Food for Picky Dogs.

It’s a two-attack approach.

The whole intention behind this method is to provide your traffic with answers while also providing them a product to buy related to the solution.

Trying to target a keyword like “Best Dog Food” would be the equivalent of standing in line for the Club. Using The Back Door Method for Keywords would be equivalent to bypassing the line and getting in free through the backdoor.

How to Use The Alphabet Soup Method For Finding Keywords?

Now that you’ve learned about Response keywords, Buyer keywords, and The Back Door Method for Keywords, it’s time to add a bit more to what you’ve learned.

The Alphabet Soup method is an easy and free way to find keywords using Google Search. It’s a bit like using the Google Suggestions technique I showed you before but with a simple tweak.

Say you have your Dog website and you’re trying to brainstorm for keyword ideas.

The Alphabet Soup method is one of the simplest ways to uncover keywords for your site when writing blog posts.

Begin with a term such as “Dogfood.”

Put that into Google Search and see what comes up. Then, as seen in the example below, add a space before typing the letter “a.”

Notice that Google gives you a bunch of suggestions starting with “a”? Now, all you need to do is go from a-z looking for keywords and topics to write about.

In some situations you can even add Who, What, Where, When, and Why to the beginning of a keyword phrase.

So, for example, you can see in the suggestions it says “dog food allergy symptoms”.

You can easily change it to “Why dog food allergy symptoms” then do alphabet soup from there.

The Alphabet Soup Method is a great way to do brainstorm for keywords and topics. But there is a way to streamline this method and kickstart it into high gear.
