Blogging is one of the simplest ways to make money from home without leaving your current job. There are thousands of people around the world who have been able to fund their lifestyles by starting a blog and making money online and at the same time, making themselves financially strong enough.

But, the main question is, can you also become a full-time blogger?

From setting up a blog site with WordPress to writing your first blog post, this article covers everything you need to know about becoming a full-time blogger and earning passive income from blogging using affiliate marketing.

In the process of making a blog and blogging for money, some people even quit their jobs to become full-time bloggers.

To be honest It’s not easy to become a full-time blogger.

It takes a lot of time, commitment, and hard work to become one.

But it’s possible!

Let’s find out in this article…

The following are the steps you need to follow if you’re planning to replace your current income by blogging for money. We’ll start from mindset improvement to creating an awesome blog and monetization.

“Wait”, if you’re wondering, “how can I actually make money blogging?” I’ll answer that question too because that’s the main purpose of this blog post.

How? Keep reading!

First, let me tell you what all is required to make a blog that makes money.

You will be required to spend time, effort, and dedication before actually making any money from your blog. If you need the basics of starting a blog then I’ve written an article on how to start a blog where I’ve covered every aspect of creating blogs and making money from blogging.

But, in this article, I’ll tell you only the things which you are here for, i.e., how to become a full-time blogger and get paid from your blog.

So, let’s dive right in.

The following are 9 steps that will help you achieve your goal of becoming a full-time blogger, starting from scratch to making your first dollar.

Let’s start with your mindset…

Step 1: Have the Right Mindset

You must have read this on every other blog, but seriously setting up the right mindset is very important if you’re thinking of becoming a full-time blogger. You need to believe in yourself that you can do it! There are thousands of bloggers out there who have already achieved their dreams by starting a blog.

And guess what?

You can do it too if you set up the right mindset for it.

It’s not easy to become a full-time blogger.

But, it is possible!

You need to follow this step before actually starting your own blog.

If you don’t have the right mindset for becoming a full-time blogger then you’ll never be able to complete all the other steps in this blog post.

What do I really mean by setting up your mind for success?

Basically, you need to get rid of all the negative thoughts and feelings in your mind. For example, if you’re thinking about becoming a full-time blogger but deep down inside of you, there is that feeling that blogging is just not for you then guess what? You won’t ever be able to become one. You’ll eventually give up.

You need to have a positive mindset if you want to be successful in life and blogging is no exception. You should understand it right from day 1.

Before actually setting up the right mind, think about what kind of things you can achieve with your blog? You can make money online by starting a blog for free using WordPress. Think of all the different things that you can do with your blog and start working towards achieving those goals.

As the saying goes, “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with!” So, spending time around successful people will make you become successful too. If your friends are pessimistic about starting a blog then it’s time for you to start hanging around encouraging and inspiring people.

If your friends think blogging is just a waste of time and money, then it’s high time that you should spend some quality time with those who will inspire you to become a full-time blogger and bring out the best in you.

Doing so will not only make you believe in yourself but it will also make starting a blog a little easier for you.

So, the bottom line is:

Believe in yourself and surround yourself with positive people.

It’s time to get rid of all the negative thoughts in your mind. If you think blogging is just a waste of time, then remember: It isn’t!

If there was nothing like a failure, we would all be successful! So, it’s nothing but a stepping stone to success.

Bloggers who don’t give up after their first failure are the ones who eventually become successful. So, don’t stop trying and always believe in yourself!

So, set your mindset the right way from the day you launch your blog.

Step 2: Set Up Your Own Blog

This is probably the most important step if you’re thinking of becoming a full-time blogger. Without a blog, you can’t become a blogger, right?

Starting your own blog mainly requires two things:

  1. A domain name
  2. A web hosting account

So, in order to start your own blog, you’ll need:

A Domain Name:

You can get a free domain name from HostGator or Bluehost when you purchase hosting from them. They offer one of the best and cheapest web hosting solutions out there. So, you should definitely consider purchasing hosting from them.

A Web Host Account:

For setting up your blog, you’ll need a reliable web host account to make your blog live on the Internet. You can get both hosting and domain from HostGator or Bluehost when you purchase any of their hosting plans.

You can skip these steps if:

  • You already have a website (you should convert it to a WordPress blog).
  • You already have a domain name and web hosting account.

Please note that there are many free blogging platforms where you can start a free blog. But it’s not recommended if you wish to be a full-time blogger.

Free blogging platforms are quite limited in terms of features, themes, etc. You can’t really build a business with a free blog.

So, why not start your own blog?

You should build your online business with your own website.

So, if you really want to become a full-time blogger then go for a custom domain and paid-to-host solutions that offer unlimited bandwidth and storage.

And, there’s good news:

It doesn’t cost a lot at all to start your own blog.

You can get started at only a $2.75/month hosting plan with HostGator, which is one of the best budget hosting solutions on the market. Likewise, you can get started with Bluehost at only $2.95/month.

Both of these hosting companies are great choices when you’re looking to start a blog and offer the best value for your money.

Plus, they both come with at least a 30-day money-back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with their service.

So, you really have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Here are a few of the best web hosts for your blog:

I personally recommend you go for HostGator.

When you purchase web hosting from HostGator, you’ll get a free domain name, unlimited disk space, and bandwidth.

Along with web hosting, you’ll also need a domain name.

While most web hosting companies offer free domain names along with hosting plans, usually the domain renewal costs are higher, when you compare them to regular domain registrars like Namecheap.

Now, whether you would like to go with the free domain name for one year or buy a domain to save on renewals is completely your choice.

The following are some of the best domain registrars:

  • Namecheap
  • GoDaddy
  • NetworkSolutions
  • 101Domain

Once you get your domain name and web hosting ready, you can set up your blog by installing WordPress on your domain. This way, you’ll be ready to write your first blog post in less than half an hour.

I understand if you’ve never done it before, it can feel like a daunting task.

But, don’t worry!

I’ll show you how to set up your very own blog in less than 30 minutes. I’ve written a comprehensive guide on how to set up a blog using WordPress that will walk you through everything step by step.

Step 3: Choose The Right Niche

Once you are done with setting up your blog and ready to write your first blog post, all that’s left is to come up with a blog niche.

To be successful as a full-time blogger, you should choose an evergreen niche. It’s something that people will always be interested in. Some of the best examples of evergreen niches include:

  • Parenting
  • Travel
  • Love & Relationships
  • Fitness
  • Health

The best way to choose the right niche for your blog is to ask yourself if people will be interested in reading about your blog topic 5 years from now. Perhaps you are passionate about parenting, but no one will want to read parenting blogs in 5 years.

So, this will put you at risk of losing interest.

And, you might decide to quit your new blogging journey.

However, people will still be interested in reading about making money. Hence, it’s a good idea to choose a blog niche like “How to make money online”.

I hope you are getting the idea.

The trick is to choose a niche that’s evergreen and people will continue to search for it years from now. Because the blog niche you choose will make or break your blog. If you select a blog niche that’s not evergreen or profitable, then you’ll end up quitting your new blogging journey with heartache.

Apart from choosing an evergreen niche, your blog niche should also meet the below requirements that make your niche the perfect one.

  • Minimal competition
  • High-profit potential
  • Solves a practical need
  • Strong market demand
  • Professionally and personally satisfying

Once you’ve identified your blog niche, it’s time to write your first blog post and all the next ones. Note that the more posts you write the better.

Step 4: Write Blog Posts that Matter

Once you’ve developed the blog topic and niche for your blog, it’s time to write posts. People often make the mistake of writing just any blog posts just because they have a blog. It doesn’t work that way, my friend.

You have to write blog posts that matter.

You have to write posts that answer the readers’ questions and solve their problems. Your blog posts should be a combination of useful information and tips.

The best way to do it is by doing your research on the topics you want to write about. You can use tools like the Keyword Magic Tool by SEMrush and check how many people are searching for a particular topic or keyword.

Also, you can keep an eye on your competitors’ blogs. You’ll learn a lot of things about writing blog posts just by reading their posts.

And, you’ll also get to understand what kinds of blog posts get the most views and clicks. Once you’ve found a topic you want to write about, break it down into headings and subheadings to make it easier for your readers.

Generally, it’s a good idea to have at least 3 headings and each heading should be written in a way that makes your post easier to understand.

Let me give you an example. A blog post about “How to do SEO” can be broken down into the following headings:

  • What is SEO?
  • How to do SEO?
  • How to optimize your blog for search engine crawlers?

And, each heading should be written in a way that clearly explains the topic and answers the readers’ questions. Furthermore, it should be useful for readers. Also, you can make your blog posts interesting by using case studies, practical examples, and data that your readers can relate to.

When you’re writing your posts, remember that people want to know how to do things. So, avoid using complicated terminologies and write in simple English so readers can easily read, understand and learn from your knowledge.

The best way to write useful content on your blog is by writing about things that YOU are passionate about.

Write posts that you are passionate about because if you love your blog topic, then chances are high that readers will also love it.

However, if you find a great topic that looks profitable for your blog, but you don’t know much about the topic, you may decide to learn more about it first before writing a post on your blog. So, you can start by doing research or reading an article online to learn more about it. Then, you can create a blog on the topic.

Step 5: Promote Your Blog Posts

Once you’ve written your blog posts and published them on your blog, it’s time to promote them. Don’t make the mistake of waiting for your blog posts to rank high in search engines and start generating traffic on their own.

The truth is, you have to promote your blog posts to increase traffic, get more subscribers and make money with blogging.

And the best way to do it is by using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can also answer relevant questions on Quora.

Specifically, you should share your blog posts on social media platforms that are related to your niche so you can get more targeted traffic.

For example: If your blog topic is “dog training”, your targeted audience on Facebook and Twitter will likely be people interested in “dog training”.

Also, you can use Instagram to share images related to your blog topic.

You can create an exclusive account for your blog and follow other accounts that are related to your blog topic. Once they start following you back, like their posts and comment on them. It will help you to build a relationship with other bloggers and influencers in your niche.

Promoting your blog posts will get you more traffic, increase the reach of your content and enable you to interact with influencers in your niche.

As a result, it will allow you to grow your blog into an authority blog that’s visible to search engines and ranks high in search results.

In addition, it will help you to generate more traffic from social media platforms, which can help you to get more subscribers and eventually make money from blogging. Finally, remember that the most important thing in blogging is to “write blog posts that are useful to your readers”.

So, if you want to get more subscribers to your blog, it’s important that you focus on building a valuable blog that can help people in your niche. This way you’ll be able to build authority, get more traffic, and make money.

All the above-mentioned steps are helpful in promoting your blog posts but don’t forget that this is just one part of blogging success.

You need more than just social media promotion to succeed at blogging.

Apart from social media platforms, you should also build an email list and send your subscribers an email every time you publish a post. This is a great way to increase subscriber engagement and allow readers to get a notification each time you publish a new blog post. Or, you can also send a weekly newsletter.

At the same time, remember that the more blog posts you write you have more chances to rank in multiple keywords.

As a result, it will help you to get more organic search traffic from Google that can lead to more subscribers and eventually make money by blogging.

Many bloggers only focus on publishing a huge number of posts on related topics to attract organic search traffic. Bulk publishing also works in generating huge traffic, considering that your articles are good enough.

In short, you need to focus on getting more traffic to your blog posts.

To conclude, if you start writing useful content on your blog, promote your posts using various social media platforms and build an email list, then there’s no stopping you to become a full-time blogger.

Step 6: Monetize Your Blog

After you’ve built a blog with a large number of subscribers and traffic, the only thing left is to make money from it.

The truth is, you can monetize your blog in a lot of different ways and there’s no limit to earning potential when it comes to blogging.

However, if this is your first time starting a blog as a full-time career, you should focus on making money through affiliate marketing.

In case, you don’t know what affiliate marketing is, it’s a type of marketing in which you promote other people’s products and get paid for each sale that you make. You can also use Google Adsense as one of the ways to monetize your blog, but this is not as effective as affiliate marketing.

So, focus on affiliate marketing first.

To do so, you need to become an affiliate marketer of your favorite brands. There are many affiliate marketing programs that you can join to promote their products or services on your blog.

For example, if you want to promote dog training courses as a full-time blogger, you could sign up as an affiliate with Udemy and promote dog training-related courses from there. In this way, you won’t only earn money but also help the people to learn more about their dogs.

Once you’ve found some relevant brands that offer affiliate marketing programs, it’s time to write a killer review on your blog. In case you don’t know how to write a review, here are some things that you should keep in mind:

Write a product review: Keep your focus on the features and benefits of the main product or service that you’re going to promote. While doing so, make sure that you do extensive research about it before writing the final blog post.

In this way, you’ll be able to add more value to your blog and also convince people to visit the product or service that you’re going to promote on your blog.

To find quality affiliate products, you can join affiliate networks such as, ShareASale, and ClickBank. Setting up an account with affiliate networks is usually free and you can choose a product to promote immediately.

Once you’ve found your desired affiliate products, get your affiliate links and start promoting their products and services on your blog.

While affiliate marketing is highly profitable, it’s not recommended to completely ignore other methods of monetizing your blog.

For example, you can ask for donations or sell advertising space on your blog. There are also other options such as selling eBooks and online courses that you can promote on your blog and earn money from it.

One of the best, I suggest that you create your own product or service to sell instead of promoting someone else’s product. This way, you’ll be able to earn money from your blog without running out of products. The last option is selling your own physical products through your blog if you’re good at it.

As you know, blogging is not an easy task and it requires time to become successful at it. However, if you work on your blog regularly without giving up, you’ll be able to earn money from your blog in the long run.

Step 8: Treat Your Blog as Business

Even though blogging started as a hobby, it’s not a hobby anymore. Today, you can make money blogging and you should treat it as your full-time business. If you want to make blogging a full-time career, you can’t ignore it 6 months later. Instead, treat your blog as a business and do whatever it takes to grow it.

You should start thinking like an entrepreneur and make plans. Don’t let it be a part-time job and instead, make it a full-time business.

Here’s a Quick Checklist You Can Follow:

  • Get a custom domain that you own
  • Get your web hosting account
  • Get a professionally-designed logo for your blog
  • Invest in email marketing, social media and other productivity tools
  • Consider hiring freelancers to boost your growth
  • Create business accounts on social channels
  • Get an email address with your blog domain
  • Connect with other influencers
  • Make a blogging schedule and be productive
  • Set realistic goals and achieve them

Honestly, if you ignore all the above-mentioned steps and don’t have any idea of what you should do with your blog, it’ll be hard to grow.

Blogging is not going to be easy and there’s no guarantee of success, like any other business. You’ll need to work hard and smart at the same time; otherwise, you won’t create a successful business with your blog.

Step 9: Be Patient

Like any business, it takes some time to see results with your blog.

So, you shouldn’t lose hope if you’re not getting the desired result within the first few months of blogging. Instead, keep on learning and implementing what you’ve learned on your blog. You’ll succeed soon enough.

You’ll start generating some revenue after one year of consistent blogging. Yes, blogging usually takes time. It’s not a get-rich-quick scheme.

Being patient while slowly improving your blog each day is the best way to build a successful blog that generates full-time income.

Blogging is tough, especially in the beginning when you don’t get enough traffic on your website. But if you stick with it, you can earn millions of dollars from your blog within 2-3 years after starting it. 😎

Well, if not millions, it’s comparatively easy to earn at least $1000 per month from your blog if you implement the steps that I’ve discussed so far.

My Final Words

Finally, I hope that you learned a lot from this blog post.

If you did, please share it with others and help them learn how to become a full-time blogger and make money blogging.

Passion plus consistency is what makes a successful blogger.

So, take action on what you learned today!

I highly recommend taking the time to learn as much as you can about blogging and take action as soon as possible. Once you complete all the steps mentioned in this post, you should be well on your way to making a living.
